The illusion of ‘normalcy’

“Television promises you fairy tales and doesn’t deliver.” I said that during High School and it became my mantra. I felt like my family was the same way. My parents were supposed to love and cherish one and other, but that didn’t happen. Of course, until the very day that my dad left, I had zero idea that anything was wrong. We were poor; okay. But my Mother was always positive. It didn’t matter that we were poor as long as our house was clean, our yard was trim, and we had a roof over our heads. And indeed, that woman could create a filling supper out of anything. It might not have been exactly what we wanted, but it was there. With the right attitude, you can get through anything. 008
